Praise Him until the victory comes!
‘…Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. ‘ Psalm 42:5 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.42.5.
The caption above includes a phrase I heard my Pastor say after reading Psalm 42:5: ‘Praise Him until the victory comes’! The context in this passage of scripture is that despite the bad things happening around us or adverse circumstances in our life, we should put our hope in God and praise Him for being our Savior! Perhaps the key word in the above passage is ‘yet‘. I circled it at the time I heard it. “…for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God”.
The 4 gospels also record the importance of praise, especially when encountering the Lord’s presence:
Matthew: ‘The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “ ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’ ?” ‘ Matthew 21:9,16 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.21.9,16
Mark: ‘Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna! ” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” ‘ Mark 11:9-10 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/MRK.11.9-10
Luke: ‘the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” ‘ Luke 19:37-40 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/LUK.19.37-40
John: ‘They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! ” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!” ‘ John 12:13 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/JHN.12.13
And the whole Book of Psalms is filled with exhortations to ‘Praise the Lord’. The word or subset of ‘Praise’ is referenced 130 times in the bible. So ‘Praise’ must be very important if it is mentioned that often!
Psalm 34:1: ‘I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.’ https://my.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.34.1
Psalm 67:5-6: ‘May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us.’ https://my.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.67.5-6
Psalm 68:19-20: ‘Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves…’ https://my.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.68.19-20
Psalm 71:8: ‘My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.’ https://my.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.71.8
And Psalm 150:6 says, ‘Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.’
So I encourage you today to ‘Praise Him until the victory comes’! Because God desires that we have victory in every area of our lives!
